STUDENTS and staff at St Ninian's High School celebrated World Book Day on Thursday by dressing as their favourite story book characters and raising money for charity.
To mark the event Sure donated five vouchers as a prize for the best costume to mark the worldwide celebration of books and reading.
Rose Dahlan judged the year seven event. She said: "It was a great competition that we were pleased to support. The difficulty was in picking a winner because there were so many great costumes.
"Sure is keen to support community-based activities like this because they get children excited about learning and in this case, reading. I'd like to say well done to everyone who took part."
Emma McGivern was crowned the winner after dressing up as Princess Fiona from Shrek! This book was written in 1990 by William Steig and served as the basis for the popular Shrek film series.
Runner up Bethany Kneale dressed up as Willy Wonker and Saoirse Coyle-Carroll as the Mad Hatter.
School librarian Helen Lilleyman organised the fundraising activity. She was dressed as Dr Seuss' Cat in the Hat. Helen said: "It was lovely seeing so many students dressed up in book character costumes and enjoying the celebration of World Book Day. Thanks again to Sure for their support."
Money raised from the event will be divided between a school in Uganda and the two libraries at St Ninian's High School.
