Old bus station site - redevelopment talks ongoing

by isleofman.com 3rd March 2011

Redevelopment of the former Douglas Bus Station site is still planned – but it won’t happen anytime soon.

That admission from the Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne, two months after the Manx government told the preferred developer it must work faster.

Askett Hawk plans to build a three or four star hotel in Lord Street with 150 rooms, 75 apartments, and nine retail and leisure units.

The scheme led to a huge debate in Tynwald three years ago, when it emerged the company would be offered a 999-year lease on the site.

Mr Gawne has acknowledged frustration at a lack of progress.
