Sun shines on the righteous Peel golfers!

by isleofman.com 2nd March 2011

THE righteous members of Peel were blessed with excellent conditions on Saturday. Despite the meteorological ravages of the last few weeks the course was in good shape with all the greens in play.

The wetter parts of the course were drying out rapidly and only a strong breeze hindered the players. The format was individual Stableford. Scoring was tight with count-backs deciding most of the places.

Mike Bayley (10) had a blob-less 38 to take 6th. John O’Brien (9) owed his 5th place to a superior back nine. Nick Watson (17) had another good result and was 4th with 39 points. Third went to Anthony Dowling (14) with 40 points. With an excellent 41 points Ian Begley was 2nd his highlight being a 2 on the 17th.

The winner with 41 points was Alan Davidson (12). His inward 22 points giving him the win on countback. This Saturday we are playing the Tower Insurance Monthly Medal.

Buggies are back in use. We would ask users to be considerate and not go within 20 yards of the greens and try to keep to the rough. There are white lines painted around most greens so do not drive inside them.

The series of quizzes ended last week. Modesty forbids me to say whose team won! They were well supported this year and Alan Brew was in particularly good form as quizmaster with some devilish questions. We will be doing another quiz sometime before the summer and I will keep you posted.

We still have not received some subs. Members who have not paid by the end of today may have to re-apply for membership.
