Thrill seekers required to zip wire across Island valley

by isleofman.com 2nd March 2011

THRILL seekers are being offered the chance to complete a Tyrolean traverse rope descent 80ft above one of the Island's most picturesque valleys.

The Children's Centre is holding a Dare to Live event on Saturday, April 2, and is looking for volunteers to take part.

A Tyrolean traverse is similar to a zip wire rope descent but with the starting and finishing points at the same height across Dhoon Glen near Laxey.

The Children's Centre Mobex team - who are experts in a wide range of adventure activities - will instruct and supervise participants as they make the 150 foot crossing using ropes and pulleys.

Mark Eastham, fundraising co-ordinator for The Children's Centre, said: "This will be only the second time this type of Tyrolean traverse event has been organised in the Isle of Man so this year's Dare To Live challenge is a rare opportunity for anyone to experience a new and exciting activity."

Anyone interested in signing up for the challenge needs to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship with all proceeds going to The Children's Centre's charitable projects Out2Play, Mobex, Child Contact Centre and the Phillip Christian Centre.

Last year the Dare To Live event saw 99 volunteers abseiling 70 feet from the top of Royal Bank House, Victoria Street, Douglas, raising a total of £15,000.

No previous experience is required to take part in the Tyrolean traverse although a £30 non-refundable deposit is required. For more information contact Mark Eastham by calling 01624 631917.
