Douglas Regatta set to be biggest yet

by isleofman.com 1st March 2011

THE Moore Stephens Douglas Regatta is set to be bigger than ever this year when it takes place in July.

The annual event is scheduled to take place in Douglas Bay on Saturday, July 2, and Sunday, July 3, and will once again raise money for local charity Sailing For The Disabled.

Bransom Bean, crew benefits director at Moore Stephens, said: "Last year we had a great turnout and some fantastic racing in fresh breezes with no injuries and only one demasting. We're hoping for an even bigger competition this year with the Isle of Man Cruiser Championships being incorporated into the event."

This year's racing will begin on the Saturday with two races at 2pm followed by two back to back races on Sunday from 10am.

There will also be entertainment including an evening BBQ on the Saturday and a prize-giving on the Sunday at the newly expanded Douglas Bay Yacht Club.

Mike McMahon, Douglas Bay Yacht Club commodore, said: "2011 is set to top all others with the inclusion of the Isle of Man Cruiser Championships alongside a full programme of entertainment and racing and stepped up fund raising for Sailing For The Disabled."
