COMPANIES who operate sunbed tanning services will soon come under the control of new health regulations.
The dangers of using sunbeds, particularly for those under 18, have led to the drafting of detailed new regulations in the draft Public Health (Amendment) Bill 2011 which has been drawn up by the Environment Directorate of the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture.
The directorate has today announced the start of an extensive consultation exercise in which it is seeking comments and views with regard to the new bill. Comments can be made up to May 31st.
This draft Bill amends the Public Health Act 1990, updating the Act to enable the Island to comply with the International Health Regulations 2005, and introduces new sections to control the use of sunbeds, particularly for the under 18 year olds.
The Bill also makes minor amendments to Part IV (Refuse Disposal) to make it clear which Department is to make the regulations to which it refers.
A detailed and complicated 34-page document sets out a series of new regulations which is available to download from the government website.
The consultation documents are available on the Government Consultations page at the following link: http://www.gov.im/daff/ConsultationDetail.gov?id=215 or copies can be obtained from the Environment Directorate on 685894 or email ehenquiries@gov.im.
