by isleofman.com 28th February 2011

AN Oscar nominated film for children will be screened at the next Films in Peel event.

The Secret of Kells (PG) is a 2009 animation which was nominated for an Oscar in 2010.

The film is based on Irish mythology and tells the story of a boy called Brendan who lives in a remote village under siege from barbarian raids.

One day a celebrated master illuminator arrives from foreign lands carrying an ancient book brimming with secret wisdom and powers. To help complete the magical book Brendan has to overcome his deepest fears on a dangerous quest that takes him into the enchanted forest where mythical creatures hide.

It is here that he meets the fairy Aisling, a mysterious young wolf-girl, who helps him along the way. As the barbarians close in, Brendan's adventures against evil really start.

The Films in Peel Committee include one film in each programme for children as well as adults.

The Secret of Kills will be screened at 6.30pm on Wednesday, March 9, at the Peel Centenary Centre.

Doors open at 6pm. Tickets are £4 or £3 for concessions and are available from Celtic Gold in Peel, Mostly Manx and Peter Norris in Douglas, Shakti Man in Ramsey and Thompson Travel in Port Erin.
