Mixed reaction to seafood traceability scheme

Fish wholesalers and restaurants who buy direct from local fisherman will in future have to keep records of their purchases.

A scheme is being introduced in the Isle of Man to tighten up records on fish landed by Manx boats.

The Registration of Buyers and Sellers Scheme is designed to assure customers their seafood comes from a traceable source.

The Department of Environment, Food and Argriculture says it will give them a better understanding of the local market.

Businesses will have to submit information about what they buy to the department, but critics say it will produce unneccesary paperwork for no benefit.

Fisheries director Andy Read was asked if it would mean more work for the industry:
