An MHK says he is concerned political pressure may have been applied in Manx courts over sentencing in a high-profile financial crime case.
On Friday, former tycoon Trevor Baines was jailed for two-and-a-half years for stealing almost a million pounds from a trust fund. His wife Wendy was sentenced to 18 months in prison for a deception involving ?400,000.
Their former advocate Jenny Holt was handed a suspended prison sentence for handling some of the money.
In court, prosecutor David Farrar QC made it known the Attorney General's Chamber was seeking custodial sentences, to send a message to the international community the Isle of Man was tough on financial crime.
