AG's sentencing comments under spotlight

by isleofman.com 27th February 2011

Senior figures within the Manx legal profession are expected to examine comments made during Friday’s sentencing of disgraced former business tycoon Trevor Baines, his wife Wendy and their former advocate Jenny Holt.

Trevor Baines was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for the theft of hundreds of thousands of pounds from a trust fund, with his wife receiving an 18 months sentence.

However, Jenny Holt, who had previously been convicted of handling ?400,000 stolen by the couple from the fund, walked away from court with a 12 months prison sentence suspended for two years, a ruling the Island's Attorney General's Chambers had advised against.

James Davis has more (play audio file):

Holt has launched an appeal against her conviction.
