Air service discontinued after tragic crash

by isleofman.com 26th February 2011

Manx2 is to withdraw its Belfast to Cork service from next month.

The airline has confirmed the route is being discontinued in the wake of the tragic incident at Cork Airport a fortnight ago.

Six people, including the captain, his co-pilot and a relative of the Irish president, were killed after the plane crashed in fog, on February 10.

The six other passengers were injured when the aircraft overturned and caught fire in a third attempt by the pilots to land in foggy conditions.

A preliminary report into the accident should be completed next month but the full investigation could take up to two years, depending on its complexity.

The service, which was launched last autumn, will end on March 13, with all passengers booked to travel after that given a full refund.
