Champions move to top of Premier League

by isleofman.com 26th February 2011

Bacchas moved ominously to the top of Manx hockey's Mixed Premier League when they beat championship rivals Vikings A by a sigle goal in the match of the day. A goal in each half from Jamie Brown gave the reigning champions both points, and moved them two points ahead of Valkyrs, with whom they drew 1-1 last week. Viking's scorer was Dave Millward and Valkyrs didn't have a game.

Valkyrs B moved off the bottom of the table, and recorded their first points of the season, when they beat fellow strugglers Vikings B 4-2. Their scorers were Vic Fearns, Jonah Hull, Oli Lockley and Steve Lowe. Valkyrs led 3-0 at half-time and the scorers for Vikings were Ash Dougal and Richie Gelder.

In the other Premier League match, Celts kept up their challenge at the top with a 1-0 win against Bacchas B, the goal coming from Lois Watterson.

Saracen Sabres are now a point clear at the top of Mixed Division One, following a resounding 5-0 victory against Valkyrs C. Their goals included a hattrick for Steve Cottier, and further efforts from Steve Jackson and John Bolton.

Vikings C are second on goal difference, ahead of Cammags, after beating Harlequins 2-0, and the club's D team increased their lead at the top of Division Two when they beat second placed Southerners 4-1.
