8 weeks of disruption to motorists in Port St Mary

by isleofman.com 26th February 2011

MOTORISTS in Port St Mary face up to eight weeks of disruption after the Department of Infrastructure announced it would be starting work in the village on Monday.

A carriageway surfacing and footpath resurfacing scheme will start on Bay View Road, Lewthwaites Way and the Promenade between Plantation Road and the Co-op.

Lewthwaites Way will be closed to traffic for the duration of the work. Traffic will be able to use Bay View Road during the works however this will be controlled by temporary traffic lights.

During the work on the Promenade traffic will be able to gain access again controlled by traffic lights. However the route will be closed off for the installation of a new drainage system near the car park when the road will be closed.

A full road closure is needed because the drain crosses the road at an oblique angle and is approximately three metres deep. A trench will need to be adequately supported and there is insufficient width to keep the road open during the work.

During this period traffic will be diverted via Creggan Mooar. Pedestrian access will be maintained in Port St Mary at all times.

These works follow on from work carried out to the pedestrian crossing outside Scoill Phurt le Moirrey and the department has apologised for any inconvenience caused by the works.
