Quarterbridge to close again this weekend

by isleofman.com 25th February 2011

QUARTERBRIDGE will close again this weekend causing more disruption for Island motorists.

After consultation with the Met Office, the Department of Infrastructure confirmed that the junction would close from 6am tomorrow (Saturday). It will remain closed until midnight on Sunday.

During last weekend's closure Department of Infrastructure staff worked through poor weather to plan out the old road surface in preparation for the new surface to be laid. Once the rain had cleared by mid afternoon the workers started to lay the new road surface.

On Sunday temporary ramps were placed at the edges of the new road surface to enable traffic to use the junction when it reopened.

This weekend the work will include the completion of the new road surface and the installation of new pedestrian refuge islands and signs. Finally the new road markings will be applied.

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the closure and diversion and warning signs have been erected on the main roads and junctions leading to Quarterbridge to advise motorists to take an alternative route.

Traffic signals at Pulrose Bridge and Groves Road will be altered to assist with traffic flow and Saddle Road will become a clearway from its junction with New Castletown Road to Vicarage Road.

The Department of Infrastructure has reminded motorists to leave extra time for their journeys and to try and avoid the area.
