“Fat cat” government salaries to be questioned in the House of Keys next week

by isleofman.com 25th February 2011

QUESTIONS about “fat cat” salaries paid to senior government executives will be asked in the House of Keys next week.

Michael MHK David Cannan - for many years a critic of excessive salaries paid to senior government civil servants - is asking questions about incremental pay rises paid during the current financial year to officers earning more than £59,000 per annum.

He will seek confirmation of the details from Civil Service Commission chairman John Houghton and try to find out what is the total cost of incremental pay rises now and expected in the coming financial year.

The questions come at a time when government is considering a series of controversial cuts in government staff at the bottom of the pay scale, including manual workers in various departments.
