THE Sayle Gallery will be holding an exhibition of intricately constructed and richly layered artwork next month.
Carpet Pages is the work of local artist David Maddrell, who traditionally produces work depicting Manx landscapes.
The centrepiece of the exhibition will be David's artist book, Carpet Pages, which contains vivid tapestry 'pages' of artwork which have been bound into the hand-stitched book using traditional binding methods.
These highly embellished creations feature childlike, playful and contemporary images and showcase many different painting and printing techniques including screen printing, college, rubber stamping and stencilling.
Each of the double page spreads from the book will also be exhibited as a limited edition framed print.
David said this exhibition was a move away from his traditional work which would "lead to a refreshed approach to my more traditional land and seascape subjects".
During the exhibition a soundtrack will be played which is directly inspired by the artwork. This has been created by the local musician Buggane. A CD of the Carpet Pages soundtrack will be released through Ballagroove Records with artwork compiled by David.
David studied fine art at the Sunderland College of Art and was artist in residence for the Courtyard Gallery in 2001. He has also had solo shows at the Erin Arts Centre and solo and group exhibitions at the Sayle Gallery and Courtyard Gallery. David was also chosen to represent the Island for the Interceltic Festival in Brittany last year.
The Carpet Pages exhibition will take place in the Villa Marina Arcade from Friday, March 11, to Sunday, April 3. It is open from 10am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 1.30pm to 4.30pm on Sundays. Admission is free.
