THE doors to the new state of the art purpose built doctor's surgery in Peel will open on Monday.
Peel Group Practice will move to its new location, behind the Corrin Home, over the weekend.
Health Minister David Anderson MHK said: "This is truly a landmark moment for community healthcare in the west of the Island.
"The new surgery will continue to meet the medical demands of a growing population in the west of the Island from Peel and the surrounding areas such as the parishes of Patrick and German.
"This will enable the provision of enhanced care in cutting edge, modern surroundings, which bring with them increased space and facilities for medical and nursing practitioners."
The existing surgery in Derby Road was originally an old school house and has been adapted over the years.
Janece Pugh, practice manager, said: "This has been a long awaited facility for Peel. We have been struggling for a number of years in the old premises and it is very exciting to be moving to a new purpose built surgery. We hope our patients will be as pleased as we are with all the new facilities and space it will provide."
The new surgery will also be the base for the community nursing team for the west of the Island. It will provide space for six doctors, three nurses and 12 administration staff to care for 8,100 patients.
Senior partner Dr Malcolm Guild said: "This new facility has been much needed for several years. We are very pleased to be moving into it and very much welcome the improvements to patient care it will allow us to make."
Access to the new surgery is via Albany Close. Pedestrians can access the surgery on foot from Westlands. The new address is: Peel Group Practice, Albany Road, Peel, 1M5 1HU. The telephone number and fax number remain the same.
Due to the move only emergency or urgent appointments and urgent home visits will be available on Friday and Monday and patients are asked to try and avoid contacting the surgery for routine matters.
Normal service will resume on Tuesday, March 1, when the new surgery will come into full operation.
