Manxman back in warmer climes

by isleofman.com 22nd February 2011

The first Manxman ever to reach the South Pole is safely back in warmer climes carrying out research into the Earth’s atmosphere.

Joe Kinrade, a second-year PhD student from Andreas, visited Antarctica to collect scientific data for use in his work looking into GPS satellites.

As part of his studies at Bath University, he spent six weeks in temperatures as cold as -35 celcius, seeing penguins and seals on the way.

But it was only once he’d arrived back in the UK he realised he was the Island’s sole representative to have visited the pole, an achievement he’s modest about.
