Major roadworks at Billown crossroads

by isleofman.com 22nd February 2011

MAJOR roadworks will take place at the end of this week at Billown crossroads in Castletown with traffic lights installed for two days.

The Department of Infrastructure will remove an existing chamber which is situated in the centre of the carriageway.

In a statement issued today the department said, “The removal of the junction box will improve the ride quality through the junction and reduce ongoing maintenance. Whilst it was desirable to remove the chamber when the recent repair work was undertaken, this was not possible due to the emergency nature of the work.”

During the course of the works the Department will use 24 hour traffic signals. In a statement issued this morning, a spokesman said, “We apologise for any inconvenience to motorists, pedestrians and residents.”
