THE Island's Positive Action Group will be discussing freedom of information at a public meeting on Wednesday.
Julian Todd, the creator and co-founder of the website theyworkforyou.com, will discuss how the public can use the internet to influence government and effect change. He set up the website to keep track of the UK's parliaments and assemblies.
Julian is an active freedom of information campaigner who last year shared a platform with Julian Assange of WikiLeaks.
Also speaking at the event is Ralfy Mitchell from Maughold who has built up a following for his independent eccentric video reviews of whisky from his front room. He describes his website, ralfy.com, as "substance over style".
Roger Tomlinson, chair of the Positive Action Group, said: "We believe that this year's General Election will be strongly influenced by use of the internet with more candidates having websites. Similarly the local media will feature video interviews with candidates. The public too is realising what a powerful force social networking can be in political action.
"Despite promising a Freedom of Information Act our government still holds back the legislation. We wish to nudge freedom of information to the top of the Isle of Man political agenda. Obtaining and imparting accurate information is a vital part of the modern political process.
"Our two speakers have a wealth of experience in persuasive tactics to influence opinion and we can learn from them. It will be a lively and entertaining evening.
"For the Political Action Group the election campaign starts here - who knows one day we may have a Freedom of Information Act."
Freedom and Whiskey Go Together starts at 7.30pm at The Claremont Hotel in Douglas. Admission is free.
