ELDERLY people in the Island will be celebrated on Friday as part of National Dignity Action Day.
The Department of Social Care is marking the Dignity in Care campaign by inspiring its staff and local people to place dignity and compassion at the heart of care services in the community.
Cummal Mooar Resource Centre in Ramsey and Thie Meanagh Centre in Douglas will be celebrating the day with afternoon tea for residents and the public.
As well as raising awareness of the importance of dignity in care the day is designed to remind society that care of those in the community is not the sole responsibility of health and social care staff and that care staff also have the right to be treated with dignity and respect.
Social Care Minister Martyn Quayle MHK said: "I congratulate my department's staff for their enthusiasm and willingness to take part in this important day.
"In Social Services we aim to help all those we serve to have a fulfilling life despite age or disability and to make a contribution to the community.
"My department is striving to meet the needs of the Island’s older community which is an important group and one that continues to grow rapidly.
"We are very grateful to Age Concern for their contribution and support and I am sure these events will be a great success and enjoyed by all those in attendance."
Bill Malarkey MHK, political member for social services, said: "Dignity Action Day is open to all and it will hopefully give people an opportunity to learn more about older people’s needs and how staff work together to promote the rights and needs of elderly service users in residential care.
"Everyone has a right to respect, dignity and privacy regardless of their age or disabilities and therefore the day will focus on equality of treatment and rights."
Cummal Mooar Resource Centre will be holding afternoon tea from 2.30pm. Thie Meanagh Centre will hold its event from 2pm to 4pm.
