Old Boys defeat champs

by isleofman.com 19th February 2011

Old Boys kept alive their title hopes in the Canada Life Premier League by defeating the reigning champions on their own patch.

After a goalless first half, Robbie Ward and Craig Stewart struck in the second half to earn Colin Purvis’ team maximum points at Rushen and move them six points clear of St George’s, who have four games in hand.

Ramsey held St Mary’s to a 2-2 draw at Groves Road.

Goals from Danny Foulis and John Roberts earned the northerners a point.

Steven Priestnal hit a brace for the Saints.

Newly promoted Ayre United consolidated a mid table spot with a fine 3-0 win at Michael, who remain anxiously looking over their shoulders at the relegation zone.

James Teare was among the scorers for the Tangerines.

Juan Killip was the hero as Marown booked a place in the GH Corlett Woods Cup semi-finals – but they were pushed hard by Douglas and District.

Killip hit a hat-trick, one from the penalty spot, and Richard Mulhearn netted the other as Marown won 4-3 at the side which thrashed them 7-2 in the league last month.

Dave McDaid hit two penalties for the home team with Richard Brant also scoring but it wasn’t quite enough for D&D.

All the goals were scored in the second half.
