It was a poor day for the Manx sides competing in the UK Leagues with all three men’s teams losing, leaving Vagabonds Ladies to keep the Manx flag flying.

In South Lancashire/Cheshire Division One, Vagabonds went down 21-0 at home to league leaders Anselmians.

The visitors’ superior back line was the difference between the two sides after a manful effort from the Vagabonds forwards.

Vagas can draw some comfort from the result as Anselmians had been averaging 42 points per game this season.

In Division 2, Ramsey flopped against struggling Wallasey going down 17-12.

Wallasey led 17-5 at half-time with a Craig Long try keeping Ramsey right in the game.

Ramsey turned the screw in the second half and when Lance Wyllie crossed for a try, which was converted by Fintan Cummins, they were within touching distance but were beaten by the clock.

Douglas were soundly beaten 55-0 on the road at Warrington in a game they’ll want to forget.

Warrington are among the promotion favourites in the Division so Douglas wouldn’t realistically have expected much from the game, but a defeat of this size was perhaps a bit more than anticipated.

In RFU women’s Championship North Division Two, Vagabonds Ladies won 24-0 away at Sheffield.

Inspirational captain Fran Hunt picked up two tries, one in each half, and one converted by Cat Beswick.

After absorbing sustained Sheffield pressure in the second half, Vagas closed the game out with two more tries, one from vice captain Abbi Corkish and one from Beswick, which she converted herself.
