Fire crew rescue car stuck in Rushen Abbey ford

by isleofman.com 19th February 2011

A FIRE crew from Castletown has rescued a vehicle which got stuck in the ford at Rushen Abbey.

The vehicle had attempted to travel through the ford but, due to the depth of the water, got stuck.

The motorists were forced to leave the vehicle and make their way to safety on the roadside.

One fire appliance spent almost an hour at the scene and the incident was under control at 11.10am.

The fire service has asked the public to "proceed with caution when approaching or driving through any fords which may still be open – especially after the heavy rainfall experienced over the last 24 hours."

Drivers have been reminded to take note of the flood marker posts indicating the full height of water at fords and to be aware of any debris in the water which cannot be seen due to the depth and clarity of the water in flood conditions.
