Dangerous driving led to death of motorcyclist

by isleofman.com 18th February 2011

A man has been convicted of causing death by dangerous driving in an incident which happened 17 months ago.

Stephen Darren Callow appeared at a Court of General Gaol today (Friday).

In September 2009 he was involved in a collision with motorcyclist ridden by Mark Penketh, who was riding his bike up Ballaquayle Road towards St Ninian's.

Callow's car turned across the path of the bike causing a collision in which Mr Penketh received fatal injuries.

Detective Inspector Terry Stephen says police carried out a long and very thorough investigation and he is satisfied the court saw fit to convict the defendant, based on the evidence presented.

He adds his thoughts, and those of his colleagues, go out to Mr Penketh's family and friends.

Callow has been bailed for the preparation of pre-sentencing reports, and will appear in court again on March 24.
