STUDENTS from St Ninian's High School in Douglas visited the incinerator recently as part of the geography topic "My world, my responsibility".
The visit was to encourage the Year Eight students to think about resource management and sustainability.
There was a particular focus on why this is so important for the Isle of Man as an island community as well as the impact it can have on the wider world.
The students are now being asked to produce a follow-up piece of work in their lessons for a competition organised by incinerator operators SITA which will include information they observed such as how the furnace, crane and emission monitoring worked.
Kirsty Moore, subject leader for geography at St Ninian's said: "Many thanks to SITA for inviting us to see the plant in operation and to Jack Kaighin, SITA tour guide, and Stephanie Gray, environmental education officer with the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture for leading the tour."
The incinerator is also known locally as the Energy From Waste Plant.
