Collections 'aren't saving planet' - claim

The chairman of Onchan Commissioners says his board voted to scrap kerbside collections of waste because there is insufficient proof that the initiative is reducing Carbon Dioxide emissions to any meaningful extent.

Onchan has been taking part in a three-year government funded trial scheme, along with Douglas and Braddan, and a second plot scheme has been running in the area.

Brian Stowell says it was a difficult decision, but there was no evidence to convince the commissioners they should continue (first part of audio file):
