This week’s weather - another chilly spell

by isleofman.com 14th February 2011

THE temperature is dropping again this week and it’s likely to feel a lot colder due to strong winds which are forecast by the Met Office at Ronaldsway.

Although it’s not expected to reach freezing point, it’s definitely not a week for a barbecue, despite two beautiful days in the last week when the sunshine produced some proper heat for the first time this year.

Anyone fortunate enough to be off work on Thursday was able to enjoy a magnificent day in the sun - a sheltered spot even left the impression that spring was actually here. But it was a false alarm. The weather for the coming week takes us back a step or two to much lower temperatures, but with the hope of some occasional sunny breaks and perhaps a bit of warmth in a sheltered spot

The battle between two large weather systems - one over the Atlantic and the other over Europe - makes the forecast for the end of the week rather unpredictable, but it looks like it will definitely be getting colder, with the possibility of snow on high ground.

It’s worth remembering that this time last year the Isle of Man - and the rest of the British Isles - was covered in a thick blanket of snow which lasted well into March. So, it’s not out of the question for us to get more snow again before the winter is out.

Fingers crossed - one way or the other (depending on your age - mental or real!).
