Union hopeful after talks over job losses

A trade union hopes it's headed off fears of 22 redundancies at the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure.

Steve Salter of Unite met with department officials to discuss the plans, which would affect rail maintenance staff based at Banks Circus in Douglas.

The layoffs, announced by Leisure Minister David Cretney, would be phased over the next two years as his department struggles to save ?900,000.

But Mr Salter says, after talks were held on Friday, those jobs may now be saved:
