QUARTERBRIDGE junction will be closed to traffic during the next two weekends.
It will not be in operation from 6am on Saturday (February 19) until midnight on Sunday, February 20.
When it re-opens to traffic there will be a temporary road surface.
The junction will then be closed again from 6am on Saturday, February 26 until midnight on Sunday, February 27.
Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the closures.
During the first weekend closure the majority of the old road surface will be planed out and re-laid with a new surface and some white road markings will be applied.
There will be raised ironwork and minimal road markings on and around the roundabouts when the junction re-opens so motorists are asked to take extra care.
During the second weekend closure the remainder of the new road surface will be laid and the white road markings will be applied.
Diversion and warning signs will be erected on the main roads and junctions leading to Quarterbridge to advise motorists to take an alternative route during the weekend closures.
The timing phases at the traffic signals at Pulrose Bridge and Groves Road will be altered to assist with traffic flows.
Saddle Road will become a clearway from its junction with New Castletown Road to Vicarage Road.
This means that there will be no parking on the road. The electronic matrix signs at Richmond Hill, Cronk Ny Mona and the Sea Terminal will provide information to motorists.
The work to be undertaken during the weekend closures is heavily dependent on the weather so a final decision as to whether the work will go ahead will be made on Friday, February 18 after consultation with the Met Office.
The Department of Infrastructure will then announce its decision through the media and on its own website.
If the work has to be delayed, a third weekend closure provisionally booked for Saturday, March 5 and Sunday, March 6 will be used.
A spokesman said: "The department wishes to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience caused during these weekend road closures."
