Unemployment figures creep up

by isleofman.com 11th February 2011

UNEMPLOYMENT in the Island increased by 61 last month to a total of 856 - an unemployment rate of two per cent.

Treasury Minister Anne Craine MHK said: "The increase in unemployment for January, although small compared to recent years, does not mean there is any room for complacency when considering the economic future of the Isle of Man.

"Our companies still have competitive pressures to deal with and the financial pressures on government have not gone away.

"Government is firmly focused on addressing both of these areas."
