Island entrepreneurs invited to apply for Dragons' Den

by isleofman.com 12th February 2011

ENTREPRENEURS from the Isle of Man have been invited to apply for the next series of the hit BBC television show Dragons' Den.

The show, which is screened on BBC 2, offers entrepreneurs from across the United Kingdom the chance to pitch for investment to fulfill their business ambitions.

Aspiring businessmen and women reveal their product or invention to The Dragons – a group of multimillionaire investors – and ask for a cash investment in return for an equity share of the business. The full cash investment must be approved or they walk away with nothing.

A statement released by the BBC said: "The Dragons want to invest in the very best that British business has to offer. They're prepared to listen to a pitch for any type of business but they have to believe that it requires investment and will make money before they’ll back it with their own cash."

Last year the Peel P50 – the smallest car ever to be produced – which was originally manufactured in the Isle of Man was the subject of one business proposal.

Car enthusiast Gary Hillman was keen to bring the Peel brand back to its former glory. Dragon James Caan invested and the two car models in the brand – the Peel P50 and the Peel Trident – are now being reproduced and retailed for the first time in 50 years.

This year there will be a new Dragon. James Caan has left the panel and will be replaced by businesswoman Hilary Davey. She joins Duncan Bannatyne, Theo Paphitis, Deborah Meaden and Peter Jones.
