Investment in Victorian squares continues

Douglas Borough Council is continuing a rolling programme of improving the town's squares.

Derby Square was first to be refurbished, a few years ago, and Woodbourne Square will be the next to benefit, with a scheme costing ?100,000.

The work will include improved drainage, new benches and bins, and repainting the gates and railings.

There was a debate about whether the paths should be surfaced with tarmac or concrete, but chairman of Leisure Services Stephen Pitts says tarmac won the day:
