Bill could encourage more women to breastfeed

Head of midwifery at the Department of Health Jane Sloane says women need to feel comfortable if they are going to breastfeed their babies in public.

Yesterday (Tuesday), the House of Keys decided against further approving a bill which would make it illegal to stop them doing so.

Instead the bill will be looked at by a select committee.

Ms Sloane says she hasn't been made aware of specific incidents in which mothers have been asked not to breastfeed in public.

However, if a more secure environment was created, more of them would do it:
