A bid to make breastfeeding in public a legal right has been halted.
Rushen MHK Juan Watterson put forward proposals which would have made it illegal to stop a mother breastfeeding in a public place, or on licensed premises.
However, the issue will now be examined by a select committee.
The politician behind the referral to a committee, East Douglas MHK Chris Robertshaw, says no one is against mothers who breastfeed in public, but the bill as proposed could have led to innocent people being criminalised (first part of audio file):
Mr Watterson admits the reaction of colleagues to his proposal has surprised him (second part of audio file):
The members of the select committee are Mr Robertshaw, his East Douglas colleague Brenda Cannell and Rushen MHK Quintin Gill.
