Energy providers to face tighter controls?

The chairman of the Office of Fair Trading says his organisation may wield new powers for energy regulation in the future.

Bill Henderson MHK says, at present, the OFT has little power to control gas prices, which are to rise by nine per cent for natural gas and 14 per cent for LPG later this month.

Last year the OFT carried out a section 19 investigation, which looks at whether companies are effectively ripping off its customers, but found no evidence of profiteering by Manx Gas.

However, Mr Henderson says in future the OFT may wield new powers which could provide tighter controls:
