Ashley Hill pupils celebrate Chinese New Year

by isleofman.com 8th February 2011

CHILDREN at Ashley Hill Primary School in Onchan have celebrated Chinese New Year.

The children, who are in the reception class, marked the event by wearing red and gold clothes to school, making cards and taking part in dragon and fan dancing. They also painted Chinese pictures and tried eating with chopsticks.

Rachel Clennell, reception teacher at Ashley Hill, said: "We like to celebrate festivals such as Chinese New Year as it helps the children develop an awareness of other beliefs and cultures."

The Chinese New Year officially started on February 3. It is the year of the rabbit.
