THE classic film The Red Shoes will be screened at the Centenary Centre in Peel tomorrow (Wednesday).
The film, made in 1948, tells the story of a young ballet dancer torn between the man she loves and her pursuit to become a prima ballerina.
Her rise to sure stardom is interrupted when she falls for a young composer and is torn between the demands of the Russian ballet impresario and her heart. This film is a true classic and rarely seen on the big screen.
Back in October Films in Peel held a fascinating evening with internationally acclaimed film historian, curator, broadcaster and consultant Professor Ian Christie about the work of award winning cameraman Jack Cardiff.
Jack Cardiff was the cinematographer on The Red Shoes which is written, directed and produced by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger.
The film has recently been restored as part of a long term project supported by Martin Scorsese, a great fan of Jack Cardiff and the Powell and Pressburger films.
An article by Ian Christie about the restoration is available on the BFI website
Tomorrow's screening takes place at 7.45pm.
Tickets are £4 (or £3 concessions) and are available from Celtic Gold in Peel. Reservation tickets with seat guarantee are available from Shakti Man, Ramsey, Peter Norris Music and Mostly Manx, Douglas and Thompson Travel, Port Erin.
