Council makes another allotments appeal

by isleofman.com 5th February 2011

A second batch of 25 allotments off Johnny Watterson's Lane has moved a step closer, following a donation to Douglas Borough Council of several hundred tonnes of earth!

A month ago an appeal went out from the Town Hall for help in getting rid of a large hole - formed during the creation of the nearby lawn cemetery - which needed to be filled before any allocations could be made.

Since then two people have come forward offering to help, as chairman of Leisure Services Stephen Pitts explains (first part of audio file):

It's hoped the land earmarked for cultivation will soon be ready.

However, Councillor Pitts says that will still leave 95 people disappointed, and he's putting out another appeal, this time for more land (second part of audio file):

If you can help Douglas Council by providing land for more allotments the number to ring is 696300, during normal office hours.
