WESTMINSTER could learn some lessons from Tynwald, an MP has said.
Mark Field, Conservative MP for the Cities of London and Westminster, made the remark during his lecture at the Palace Hotel, Douglas, last night (Thursday).
He told the audience of politicians and business leaders: "Westminster could learn some broader lessons from Tynwald.
"No minister in London will ever be able to imitate Anne Craine or Alan Bell by announcing an unemployment rate of 1.9 per cent.
"This superb statistic is only possible because of the foresight you have shown in successfully diversifying the Manx economy.
"And you have managed to do that without undermining your flourishing finance sector."
Mr Field also mentioned the success of the Island's film, space and AIM listing sectors during his speech.
He added: "The reputation, expertise and sheer energy of the Isle of Man give you a tremendous competitive advantage. And now is the time to use it. The Isle of Man has a great story. So let's get out there and tell it."
