THE number of volunteer golf coaches in the Island has more than doubled in the past year.
17 new volunteers have recently completed an ASQ Level 1 certificate in coaching golf at Mount Murray which brings the total number of coaches in the Island to 32.
Two members from each golf club in the Island and two a-level students were invited onto the course which was organised by the Isle of Man Golf Partnership.
The course was delivered by PGA advanced coaching professionals Kirsty McDonald and Darren Hodgson and provided the individuals with the knowledge and competence to assist more qualified coaches. This will allow them to deliver a variety of golf coaching sessions normally under direct supervision.
Karen McGurgan, the development officer for the Isle of Man Golf Partnership, said: "The qualification is available to individuals with an interest in golf coaching who wish to work alongside other qualified coaches - such as golf professionals for example - to provide basic technical coaching to the beginner golfer.
"This is the third consecutive year that the Isle of Man Golf Partnership has promoted this important golfing qualification resulting in 32 volunteers in the Island's golfing community who are now equipped with best practice knowledge to work alongside their club professional."
The clubs represented on the course were Douglas, Rowany, Castletown, Peel, Ramsey and Mount Murray.
