Thousands of pounds raised for Island's Hospice

by isleofman.com 2nd February 2011

KIND hearted Island residents have donated thousands of pounds to Hospice Isle of Man.

Staff in the payments department of Barclays Wealth raised more than £3,000 after nominating the charity as their charity of the year for 2010.

Prison officers Karl Christian and Neil Cowhig from Jurby Prison collected £482.12 for the children's hospice Rebecca House just before Christmas. The duo promised to raise more funds this year.

Clients at Equilibrium Beauty Salon in Douglas raised more than £213 for Hospice by purchasing cuddly meerkats, re-usable plastic bags and a range of Christmas merchandise.

Money has also been raised for the Island's Motor Nuerone Disease Association. Brian Byers, the director of Acclaim, raised £1,800 by cycling from Belfast to Dublin and back again over two days.

He covered 220 miles for the event which is known as the Maracycle. Approximately 800 cyclists set off from Belfast with around 500 completing the full distance.
