Cheshire Backs IOM Rugby Clubs

by isleofman.com 2nd February 2011

Cheshire has backed the three Manx clubs currently playing in the South Lancashire and Cheshire League.

The Cheshire Executive Committee has canvassed all teams playing in the divisions and there is unanimous support for Douglas, Vagabonds and Ramsey to continue competing.

The English Rugby Football Union met with Isle of Man representatives at the National Sports Centre last Friday and officially informed them that existing travel funding was under threat.

Tim Glover reports:-

The three Isle of Man clubs were told that money would only be available for one club or for all three...but only for opponents coming over to the island to play.

Both of these proposals have been rejected as unworkable.

The RFU at Twickenham has agreed that any recommendations will not be put before the Council until April to allow Douglas, Vagabonds and Ramsey time to prepare their case and make representations.
