A man who drove while more than three times over the legal alcohol limit has been jailed for 42 days by the deputy high bailiff, Alastair Montgomerie.
Fifty-year-old Thomas Creer, of Rheast Barrule in Castletown, admitted the offence.
He was arrested outside his home, at 7pm on November 21 last year, after police received a report that he had been drinking and was driving home.
The defendant provided blood samples which showed he was three and half times over the legal limit.
Creer's advocate said he realised he was looking at custody but suggested probation as a direct alternative. He said he had lost his job and had severe personal problems, as well as being reliant on alcohol.
Mr Montgomerie said the defendant had a similar conviction in 1999, when he was given a prison sentence, and his high reading was another aggravating factor.
However, he was giving him full credit for the immediate guilty plea and his full cooperation with the police.
Creer was also banned from driving for five years and was advised to do something about his drinking.
