Across the Island dedicated walkers are already gearing up ready for this year’s parish walk in June. On every road and highway training is underway and three of those walkers are aiming to raise funds for Crossroads Caring for Carers.

Alexandra Wilson, James Betteridge and Richard Betteridge are taking on the Scottish Widows Parish Walk challenge 2011 fundraising for local carers and those they look after.

The trio hope that they will reach a target of £1000 but also that their walk will raise more awareness of carers on the Isle of Man and the work that Crossroads does locally.  Crossroads provides meaningful services to people with care needs in order to give the family member, partner or friend a small amount of respite through their week, often to do simple things such as a bit of shopping, attending an appointment or even just having a bath.

Alex, James and Richard’s fundraising efforts will go someway in providing the 1000 hours of direct care provided by the local charity every week. James completed the 85 mile course in 2009, and will be attempting to beat his time of 23 hours, 27 minutes and 30 seconds this year. Richard and Alex are aiming to reach the 32.5 miles to Peel.
