Education issues to be raised in Keys

by isleofman.com 1st February 2011

The chief minister may shed some light on future job prospects for teachers and nurses on the Island in the House of Keys today (Tuesday).

Tony Brown will be asked to make a statement about employment opportunities in both professions, as cuts in public spending continue.

Elsewhere, road works on Richmond Hill, a shortage of NHS dentists and services for autistic adults are among the issues to be raised during question time.

On the subject of Richmond Hill, North Douglas MHK John Houghton will ask the Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne about the new road's emerging defects.

Other issues include the salary of the recently appointed chief executive of the Department of Education and Children and end of year government spending.

There are 17 questions for oral answer and nine for written reply.

Four bills are down for third reading today, namely the Social Services Bill, the Anti-Terrorism Crime Bill, the Debt Recovery and Enforcement Bill, and the Children and Young Persons Bill.

Question time is broadcast live from the House of Keys on Manx Radio's AM 1368 service, from 10am.

Meanwhile, the Legislative Council is sitting this morning with the Income Tax Bill down for second reading.
