Weather this week - rain is on the way

by isleofman.com 31st January 2011

THE first hint of warmth in the sunshine was evident all over the Isle of Man at the weekend. In a sheltered spot, the sun actually brought some heat with it and a cup of coffee or a glass of vino outside was certainly on the cards in lots of places.

It will be similar today and tomorrow, but from Tuesday night it all changes.

The beginning of this week looks like being good for 48 hours with some nice sunshine forecast for today and tomorrow, but look out, because from Tuesday night it’s going to be wet and stormy and there may even be a slight chance of snow on high ground on Thursday.

It all depends on how the low pressure currently in the Atlantic to the west of Ireland develops in the next few days, but some forecasters, including Sky, are suggesting snow for Scotland and down to the borders, so the Isle of Man may well get some snow, but probably only on high ground.

The forecast for the week from the Ronaldsway Met Office predicts rain from Tuesday night through to the end of the week, becoming more showery on Friday. Strong winds of up to 25-30 mph (force 6+) are expected from Wednesday.

The UK Met Office prediction for the coming weekend for the north of England says it will be “unsettled and often windy across all parts of the UK, with some heavy rain in the north at times”.
