Church honours millionaire benefactor

by isleofman.com 31st January 2011

Multi-millionaire Albert Gubay is to receive a Papal knighthood.

The Isle of Man businessman has been granted the highest honour Pope Benedict can bestow after His Holiness received recommendations from English and Welsh bishops in recognition of his support of the Catholic Church.

Mr Gubay and his wife Carmell are said to be delighted by the news, with messages of congratulation pouring in from friends around the world.

Mr Gubay will receive the award from the Archbishop of Westminster, Vincent Nichols, on February 23.

The venue chosen for the occasion is St Anthony's in Onchan, the church Mr Gubay had rebuilt in memory of his late mother.
