Games did influence election date

The fact the Isle of Man will be hosting a major sporting event in the same month played a part in deciding the date of this year's House of Keys general election.

Athletes from all over the world will be arriving over for the Commonwealth Youth Games early in September, and it was announced last week that voters will go to the polls on Thursday, September 29.

Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure David Cretney believes keeping the two events as far apart as possible is a very sensible move:
