by isleofman.com 28th January 2011

MANX Telecom has said there are problems connecting to mobile networks for both calls and text messages in Egypt.

Due to the political situation in the country the government has turned off the internet and various mobile services.

This has caused major issues for mobile customers.

A Manx Telecom spokesman said: "Calls from the Manx Telecom network to the fixed network in Egypt are connecting at the moment, however there are problems connecting to all the mobile networks for both calls and text messages at present."

The BBC news website is reporting that Cairo, Alexandria and Suez have been placed under curfew as the Egyptian government battles to restore control after protests.

Across the country tens of thousands of protesters turned out after Friday prayers today and clashed with police.
